Civil Process


One of the primary objectives of The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office is to serve all civil process papers in a timely manner. In 2010, the MCSO deputies served 16,568 civil papers in Mecklenburg County that were issued by local courts, other courts throuout the state, as well as out-of-state courts.The Civil Division is open Monday through Friday between 8:30am - 4:30pm

Service Fees for civil process are as follows:

In-state service = $12.00 per person served
Out of state = $75.00 per person served

Fees for service of civil process must be paid in advance to the court of jurisdiction. Return of service will be forwarded to the appropriate court of jurisdiction. Mecklenburg Co. Sheriff's Office only serves civil process paperwork that has a valid physical address.The civil division will attempt service based on the information provided. If there is any additional information which may assist us in sucessfully serving your papers, such as description, work hours, place of employment, etc., please be sure to include it with your paperwork. However, please note that we will make every attempt to avoid serving individuals at their place of employment
